Continuing Care Retirement Community

Continuing Care Re1rement Communities (CCRC) are campuses with multiple types of communities, all on the same campus. Typically, there are at least three sections: Independent  Living, Assisted Living and Skilled Nursing. The idea is you can move from Independent to  Assisted Living to Skilled Nursing over 1me as your health declines. However, many people do not “progress” through these phases.

The biggest detractor from CCRC however is that there is usually a large buy-in to get into the community. For example, some communities start as low as $15,000 for a buy-in; but frequently it is closer to $40,000 and up. Many CCRCs are affiliated with religious organizations such as the  Baptist, Lutheran, Presbyterian and Episcopal communities.
